Those surgical procedures which aim at reinstating and
maintaining the reproductive operations are collectively known as reproductive
surgeries. These procedures also intend to restrain the negative brunt to the
minimum. To accomplish this purpose day-surgery procedures like laparoscopy and
hysteroscopy that are minimally invasive are adopted. Urologists or
gynecologist-obstetrician wit reproductive surgery specialty can serve as
reproductive surgeons.
In laparascopy, an ultra thin flexible tube known as
laparoscope is inserted into the abdomen. This tube is studded with camera and
allows the clear and real time view of pelvic and abdominal organs. This
insertion is made possible by making a small minor incision near abdomen.
In Hyteroscopy procedure hyteroscope (another thin flexible
tube with camera) is introduced in body via vaginal cavity for the ocular
checkup of the internal uterus and cervical canal.
Reproductive
surgeries have proven to be very effective in various female diseases and
issues like endometriosis, Tubal reconstruction, repair and
tubal-ligation reversal, Repair and reconstruction of intrauterine
abnormalities like scar tissue and congenital malformations, Removal of
endometrial tissue due to dysfunctional bleeding that is not responsive to
medical therapy, Pelvic adhesions, Uterine fibroids, Uterine polyps, Ovarian
cysts, Ectopic pregnancy, etc.
Role of
reproductive surgeries is of equal importance, use and efficiency for male
infertility related issues. Laparoscopy and hysteroscopy procedures are
extensively used for reverse vasectomy, testicular biopsy, percutaneous sperm
aspiration, testicular sperm aspirations, etc.
When
compared with traditional surgeries, there are many advantages of these surgeries
with minimal invasion. Patient has to endure much less pain after the surgery,
time spend in the hospital is shorter, recovery is fast and smaller scar is
made as incision is very small.
