In Vitro Fertilization
of IVF is a boon to the couple who are unable to conceive. Even after doing
unprotected intercourse for an year, if pregnancy isn’t achieved, couples are
advised to take help of Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART), most common of
which is IVF.
IVF is the process of
achieving fertilization of egg and sperm outside the body of the women by
placing washed and prepared sperm into the egg (oocyte) in a petridish. If fertilization
is achieved, then the resultant embryo needs to be transferred into the womb of
women for allowing it to develop further into the child.
IVF is a long and
tedious process of numerous steps including male and female infertility work
up, different tests and analysis such as irreparable
non functional fallopian tube, Severe egg factors, Endometriosis grade III and
IV, Severe male factors, Unexplained infertility, Failed IUI treatment,
followed by several other procedures known as Pre-cycle evaluation for IVF like
assessment of uterine cavity and ovarian reserve, cervical cultures, endometriosis,
evaluation of sperm, etc.
Real treatment begins after
completion of these preliminary working. Treatment includes Ovulation
induction, semen preparation, TESA/PESA/MESA, oocyte retrieval (egg retrieval),
insemination, emryo/blastocyst culture, embryo transfer, etc. Each of these
steps is a full fledged process in itself.
An IVF expert must calmly and
patiently help the patient not only through the medical treatment but also by
making him aware of the process itself throughout the IVF cycle, even after
delivery.
